A recent market data shows that the global demand for steel products is increasing day by day, and major steel producing countries represented by China are stepping up efforts to expand their export markets. Data show that in the first half of 2021, global steel demand will rise rapidly, especially in Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas. Against this background, steel exports from major steel producing countries represented by China have soared. From January to May 2021, China’s steel exports increased by more than 30% year-on-year, and the exports to Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States and other markets are also rising. To seize this growth opportunity, China’s steel producers are focusing on enhancing product quality and brand awareness. According to reports, some well-known steel companies in China have begun to explore new export models, such as setting up supporting spare parts factories overseas, improving product quality and service levels, and winning favor from overseas customers. In addition, with the strengthening of global environmental protection policies, more and more countries have eliminated high-polluting, high-energy-consuming, and low-efficiency iron and steel enterprises, and favored more efficient and environmentally friendly iron and steel enterprises. This change is also a challenge for China’s steel industry. Iron and steel production enterprises need to strengthen technological innovation and environmental protection measures, promote green and low-carbon development, and improve market competitiveness. In general, the prospect of the foreign trade steel industry is still very broad. The development of markets such as “One Belt, One Road” and Southeast Asia will provide more opportunities and space for China’s steel exports. At the same time, the steel industry needs to adapt to the dual challenges of environmental protection and market competition, and promote technological innovation and green upgrading in order to achieve sustainable development.
